TRAFFIC & ACCESS
Sunday, July 26th, 2026 access to Premana will be restricted to residents and vehicles with a valid pass.
For those arriving by car, a shuttle bus service will be available:
Shuttle buses will depart from the Industrial Zone in Giabbio (designated parking, about 1 km from Premana) starting at 6:00 AM.
Once the Industrial Zone parking is full, cars will be directed to the CFPA Hotel School in Casargo (Piazzo, Casargo ), where a shuttle service will also be available.
Average shuttle waiting time: around 20 minutes.
Private buses may park in the Industrial Zone of Giabbio (approx. 1 km from Premana). To guarantee availability, bus drivers are advised to notify the organization in advance so a spot can be reserved.
Shuttle buses will drop passengers about 200 meters from the start/finish area, easily reachable on foot.
Spectators parking in the Industrial Zone can also walk back to their car by taking the mule track that descends near the cemetery, close to the sports hall and the parish sports center. This takes about 15 minutes on foot, the same time it would take to reach the shuttle bus pick-up area, where queues are expected.

WHERE TO WATCH THE RACE
Bocchetta Larec (Giir di Mont passage – Cima Coppi 2063 m – 15 km into the race) takes approximately 3 hours on foot, or can be reached via helicopter service by reservation, subject to availability. It is the most technical and challenging section of the Giir di Mont 32 km, and always attracts a large crowd of spectators.
There are several alternative routes on foot to reach Bocchetta Larec:
From the valley floor before Premana, near the Giabbio industrial area (map): follow the river along the ancient military road, following signs to Alpe Forni, then Alpe Vegessa, and continue through Alta Val Varrone (signs for Rifugio Casera Vecchia di Varrone). Look for trail markers that, after crossing the Varrone stream, ascend toward Bocchetta Larec.
From Premana, take the “Mulattiera del Gebio” (map) to the Gebio area, where it joins the previously mentioned military road.
From Premana, go to the end of the village where the trail begins that leads first to Alpe Rasga and then Alpe Fraina (map). From here, the path climbs steeply to reach Bocchetta Larec (map).
Alpe Premaniga (Giir di Mont Uphill, Giir di Mont, and Mini Giir di Mont passage – 1400 m) takes approximately 1 hour on foot and always attracts a large crowd of spectators.
To reach Alpe Premaniga on foot, start from Premana and follow the “Mulattiera della Creghencighe”, (map) which begins near Via Martiri di Cefalonia.
Alpe Forni (Giir di Mont passage – 1200 m) takes approximately 1 hour on foot.
To reach Alpe Forni, follow the directions given for the first two alternative routes to Bocchetta Larec.
Domant (Giir di Mont and Mini Giir di Mont passage – 1300 m) is about a 30-minute walk.
It is a mountain pasture located a few kilometers before Alpe Premaniga along the race route. It is usually well attended by spectators due to its proximity to Premana, making it an easier excursion or, for some, an opportunity to see the first athletes pass before returning in time to the Premana square to watch the winner arrive.
To reach Domant, follow the directions for Alpe Premaniga (map) and, at Faee (map), turn right toward Domant (signposted via Alpe Rasga or Alpe Caprecolo via Alta).
Alpe Deleguaggio (Giir di Mont and Mini Giir di Mont passage – 1690 m) is about a 2-hour walk (map).
Alpe Deleguaggio marks the beginning of the athletes’ final descent toward the Premana finish line. The hike is more challenging but rewards with stunning high-mountain scenery.
The trail to reach it starts from Premana (map) and passes through the mountain pastures of Gorle, Zucco, and Gianel before ascending to Alpe Deleguaggio, on the border between Premana and Pagnona.
Alternatively, you can reach Premaniga (map) and follow the race route via Alpe Solino (map) and then Alpe Deleguaggio (approximately 2 hours 30 minutes).
